BLOG POST#2 The history and workings of the U.S. Supreme Court
Today I will be answering the following questions below, about the U.S supreme court.
- What did you learn about the Supreme Court that you didn't already know?
What I didn't know is that both traditional and citizen journalists have a equal and strong personal right to freedom of the press.
- What is the most important take-away point about the Supreme Court?
The most important takeaway to me is that neutral laws that apply to everyone equally are known as laws of general applicability. Examples of this are criminal and traffic laws. Another crucial takeaway you discussed is that the First Amendment doesn't protect everything, and it doesn't cover everything, reminding me to watch what I do and say.
- What was the most surprising thing you learned?
The most surprising thing I learned is that both traditional and citizen journalists have a equal and strong personal right to freedom of the press.
- How did the video change the way you thought of the Supreme Court?
I had certain opinions about the Supreme Court because, whenever I saw news about them, they would begin to reexamine wild previous cases and situations(giving the convicted another chance in a sense). This led me to believe that the court was less strict and that they were, in a sense, bending their own rules. However, I am beginning to see that instead of the rules changing with the people, it is probably the people who are changing with the rules. Actually, it's a combination of the two.
